I made my best friend Julie a purse for Christmas. She lives in Upper Michigan and likes the Packers so I made her a Packer purse like my Auburn purse. I hope she liked it. I think her husband and her boys liked it more than she did. lol
Welcome to The Riley's Blog. We have decided to put a blog together since we spend a lot of our time outdoors and taking pictures. This blog will help document our adventures.

Presents!
I have started sewing up some of the Christmas gifts I will be giving out this year. Below is a water bottle/pop bottle carrier I made for *someone*. I made it with Insul-Bright on the inside so it can handle cold or hot items. It is also washable. I think Aubie really likes it too.

Great Grandma Lottie (1888-1994)
I wanted to share a portion of my great-grandmother's journal. She lived to be 106 years old and I remember her well. I attended her 100th birthday party in Louisiana when I was 12 and shortly after she moved to Michigan to live near my grandfather. My mother and I went almost every day to visit her in the elderly home where she lived. We would play dominoes and spend time with a lot of others there (I remember Vandum, Richard and George the most). I have a lot of special memories of those times. She died of pneumonia my senior year of high school and she was surrounded by her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, included me. She could still recite poetry she learned in elementary school and was a wonderful Christian lady.
She was featured in the January 18, 1993 issue of U.S. News and World Report and was also recognized on her 100th birthday by the United States Government for the fact that all six of her sons had served in World War II.

Charity Quilt - Widows of Kiev, Ukraine
Below is the quilt I am working on for our Kiev Ministry at Church. It is a ministry to widows in Kiev, Ukraine. I hope my widow likes the quilt that I have made her. I have tried to pray for her as I make the quilt. I don't know who will get it, but the Lord knows. I hope she's not allergic to cats!

What I've Been Working On
Well, I have been working hard the last few weeks on my sewing skills. Here are a few pictures of things I have made.
I had to make an Auburn purse so I can wear all my Auburn gear when we go to the Orlando Auburn Club venue to watch the football games!
Here is a purse I made for church to match my black/white dress. They are both from a free pattern I found online. I still need to sew in a clasp for this one.
And...I have finished the quilt top for this quilt. As you can see Aubie really likes it.

Kevan's Birthday
I surprised Kevan on his birthday and took him to the Orlando Speedway to drive a Nascar racecar. It was the Richard Petty Driving Experience. He went through a training program so he knew how to drive it and then rode with one of the instructors. The instructor drove 145 MPH!!! Then, Kevan got in and was able to drive about 18 or 19 laps. They gave him a paper that listed how well he did on each lap (seconds and MPH). He did about 124 mph!!
Here are some pics from our day (click on one of the pics to see the slideshow of all the pics).

Mission Board
Since Kevan is so handy a couple from the seminary asked Kevan to help them build a Mission Board for their church. Kevan and I did the construction, paint, sanding, etc and the other couple put the map, words, etc together. Here is the finished work. I think it turned out great. He bought a big piece of board, added molding to the sides, painted, sanded and then put a piece of plexi-glass on the front using some decorative knobs.

Christmas 2007
We went to Michigan this year for Christmas and we brought Judy (Kevan's mom) with us. My (Jayde) family lives in Michigan so we drove up from Florida through Tennessee to pick up Judy and then on up to Michigan from there. The drive up was pretty uneventful, but on the ride home we ran into a snow storm and I pulled over to let Kevan drive. I didn't want to end up in the ditch in his nice little red car!
It was nice to see my family and spend Christmas Eve and Christmas with them. My nieces & nephews are the sweetest ones in the whole world!! My little nephew Isaiah kept showing us his "ipod" and would point to his eye and say it's broken. He's 2. It was sooooo funny....I'm sorry I didn't take a picture! We played "Spoons" on Christmas Day at my Aunt Janis' house and it was so much fun! The game got a little physical and I even ended up on the floor when my husband knocked me off my chair while he was trying to get his spoon!
The picture on the water is a picture of the view from our room in Mackinaw City, MI. We went up to see my best friend Julie and her family. It was pretty cold and it snowed the day we left.
